Cody Dowden

Cody Dowden, Attorney at Law

Cody Dowden Biography
Cody was born and raised in Texas where he remained throughout college, attending Sam Houston State University to obtain this Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science. While at Sam Houston he was named to both the National Criminal Justice and National Political Science Honor Societies. He moved to Arkansas to attend law school at the University of Arkansas - Little Rock Bowen School of Law in 2004. There he participated on the traveling Moot Court team, attending national competitions in California and New Jersey, and eventually becoming Chairman of the Moot Court Board. During one competition Cody won the accolades of Best Petitioner's Brief and Best Oralist.

Once obtaining his Juris Doctorate he worked for a short time as an attorney for the Department of Finance and Administration before accepting a position in Hot Springs as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. There he handled district court misdemeanors, juvenile court, and select felony and misdemeanor appeals in circuit court. For four and a half years Cody prosecuted cases, trying everything from speeding tickets to Class Y felonies and everything in between. During his tenure as a prosecutor he was a member of DWI Court, traveling to Missouri and Louisiana for DWI Court seminars. He was also trained as a forensic interviewer through the Child Advocacy Center for forensic interviews in sexual assault investigations.

Cody left Hot Springs for Northwest Arkansas in 2012 where he switched sides and began practicing criminal defense. He uses the tricks of the trade learned from being a prosecutor to zealously fight for his clients, be that through plea negotiations, bench trials, or jury trials. Cody has represented clients all over Northwest Arkansas and as far away as Pocahontas. He has handled thousands of cases from both sides and has tried hundreds. In an effort to learn as much as possible for use in defending clients, he has attended many seminars to hone his skills, including the 'DWI Means Defend With Integrity' seminar in Las Vegas, and many other seminars all over Arkansas. Cody has even taught seminars himself to other lawyers and judges on the effects of Arkansas domestic violence convictions on federal firearms rights, and participated in the teaching of DWI field sobriety tests to fellow lawyers. Finally, Cody has attended the same training law enforcement goes through for the administration of field sobriety tests as taught by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
